It’s called Espanyolification in Glasgow. In Barcelona Rangersification

These days theRangers supporters sure well and truly know their place in the pecking order…

Wildly celebrating wins that keep them firmly tucked in second place is now common practice for a supporter base that will be starved of any form of silverware again this season.

Another trophy-less season beckons

Despite staring down the barrel of yet another ‘disappointing’ (copyright James Tavernier) and trophy less campaign, the bears are still full of enthusiasm despite looking on as Celtic remain on course for yet another clean sweep of domestic honours.

Over the next month or two this will further put Celtic further ahead in the combined honours list of the two clubs (old and new Rangers combined) who have played out of Ibrox, thus making us the most undisputed successful side in the history of Scottish football.

Despite what it says on their walls

Despite what it says on their walls. If they had an ounce of self respect that would have been painted over when Charles Green took the keys in 2012, instead he claimed he ‘bought those titles’.

Embarrassing.

That unspoken understanding of their place in the pecking order was further demonstrated on Saturday evening when they celebrated wildly as they earned a last gasp victory over struggling Dundee that further strengthened their second place status, and the Bears wasted no time in taken to social media to wind up the dejected Dens supporters and players alike.

The fact that Dundee were hugely disappointed about not taking anything from a game against a side with much more resources than themselves -and Andrew Dallas dishing out favours on VAR – tells its own story.

It’s been happening for a while now, but the transformation is fully complete. Happy with their lot and comfortable with the fact that their rivals are much bigger and more successful than them and are unlikely to be caught.

Similar to that of supporters of the Spanish side Espanyol, who have also accepted that their much bigger and more attractive city rivals Barcelona are streets ahead of them. Hence why those of us in this part of the world like to call it.

It’s all about knowing your place.  Second best at best

That’s why those of us in this part of the world like to call it Espanyolification.  I wonder if they call it Rangersification in Barcelona? No? But it might catch on…you never know!
