Celtic were left heartbroken as Bayern Munich scored with the last kick of the ball to equalise at the Allianz Arena. Brendan Rodgers’ side arrived in Bavaria knowing that they faced an uphill battle; however, the Scottish Champions were excellent.
Celtic had the best of the chances in the first half but failed to make it count. The second half saw Harry Kane removed with a calf issue with the Bundesliga side struggling to penetrate the Celtic back line. Celtic had their reward in the 65th minute as Nicolas Kühn struck against his former club.
Kasper Schmeichel and the Celtic backline were excellent as Bayern were kept at bay and the game appeared to be destined for extra time. Unfortunately, Alfonso Davies crept in and deflected Cameron Carter-Vickers’ clearance across the line after the Celtic keeper made a fantastic save to deny Goretzka. Although, there appeared to be an incident in the build up that officials missed.

Upamecano appeared to step across Maeda, catching him in the face, which pushed the Japanese forward to the ground. The French defender pulled Maeda up but the gamesmanship of the defender probably convinced the officials not to stop play. It will also be an ‘if’ but you do wonder what would have happened if Maeda had made more of the contact.
Celtic will focus on bringing a Treble back to Paradise at the end of this season and then retool ahead of another tilt at the UCL next year.
