Media silence deafening after Dundee penalty dismissed by Greg Aitken on VAR

Media silence is deafening. Had it been the other way around Willie Collum would be issuing an apology…

Dundee were clearly robbed of a victory over theRangers last night after a clear cut penalty was ignored by the VAR officials. It was quite literally a game changing moment as the Ibrox side scored within seconds of the ‘controversial’ incident.

Dundee Manager Tony Docherty was not surprisingly fuming and was very vocal in his criticism about the incident in his post match interview.

On first viewing it wasn’t clear cut, but replays clearly show an infringement took place and a penalty should have been awarded in line with the rules of the game, and theRangers goal ruled out as a result.

The big song and dance Philippe Clement made

Questions have to be asked as to why such a game changing decision wasn’t awarded. Especially after the big song and dance Philippe Clement made after the League Cup final over the decision not to award his own side a spot kick.

Clement like Docherty was furious and wasn’t shy in laying bare his feelings on the matter which he reckoned cost his side the game.

Clement’s demands were met by an only willing SMSM who pressured the SFA into making their own inquiry with Willie Collum issuing a grovelling apology, which in turn led to allegations of ‘cheating’ towards the VAR team on duty, and one official in particular having his name dragged through the mud.

The media hacks are particularly quiet

It’s quite strange that the media hacks are particularly quiet after this clear cut moment of incompetence. Dundee were clearly robbed of a vital victory. It’s only fair that their voices are heard with an explanation and apology forthcoming.

Or is that sort of courtesy only reserved for one club?

PS – The VAR lines draw for the Dundee goal in the second goal were hardly conclusive and there was certainly no benefit of the doubt given to the attacking side. Far from it.
