Celtic Twitter team make Trump-style McGregor claim

Callum McGregor scored Celtic’s opener in Saturday’s 2-1 win over Kilmarnock. Despite taking criticism online for some performances since the turn of the year, the Celtic captain showed his quality in the Scottish Cup victory and netted the first goal to set Brendan Rodgers’ side into the next round of the competition, where they will host Raith Rovers.

McGregor was wholly deserving of his place in the SPFL Team of the Week that was released on Tuesday; however, the Celtic Twitter team ended up making a Trump-style claim after the SPFL released their TOTW. As clearly stated on the Tweet, the SPFL had selected Jay Henderson of Scott Brown’s Ayr United as the Star Man.

Whether the admin team were not accepting that after a fine display from the skipper or whether they simply didn’t care, they released a graphic with McGregor with the tagline ‘STAR MAN’. It is not wrong but at the same time, it wasn’t accurate!

Trump, who will be the US President when the World Cup takes place next year, is known for saying what he thinks regardless of whether there are facts to the contrary.

McGregor will be looking to lead his side into the next phase of the UEFA Champions League with a win this evening against Young Boys. The midfielder retired from Scotland duty last year in an effort to focus on Celtic and ensuring that he is well rested, you have to imagine that the increased UEFA timetable played a part in this and hopefully it will vindicate his decision to call it a day with Scotland.
