Clement given more time then talks about “club going bankrupt in 2012”

Big Phil is going nowhere for now, thankfully…

Rumours were rife yesterday about Phillipe Clement and his future at theRangers. Wednesday night’s defeat to Aberdeen was the final straw for theRangers supporters and certain sections of the media, as they demanded the Belgian’s head on a stick.

WhatsApp, and X was rife with the usual chatter

WhatsApp, and X was rife with the usual chatter from those ‘in the know’ who were adamant that the Belgian was about to be sent packing, which of course turned out to be a load of utter nonsense.

Unfortunately for theRangers supporters and our chums in the SMSM, big Phil is going nowhere, for now at least.  It’s pretty obvious to anyone with a working brain cell that the Ibrox club can’t afford to sack the Belgian as he just recently signed a contract extension that runs until 2028.

To sack him would mean paying him a tidy sum

To sack him would mean paying him a tidy sum, and as we know the Ibrox club are in financial destress at the moment. Something that was reflected in their recent financial reports when it was revealed that they had haemorrhaged a whooping £17 million.

They aren’t sacking Phil and he will lead them out at Hampden on Sunday in the second Premier Sports Cup semi-final.  If he can beat Motherwell then the waffling Belgian will be entertaining us all for the foreseeable future…

“The club going bankrupt”

His latest media conference is below and for the second interview in a row he references the events of 2012, today talking about “the club going bankrupt” at that time.

Here’s what he said in midweek, just so it’s here for reference purposes…

“This was a game that could have been a draw or on a good day, if things fell on our side and we had a bit of luck, even a win.

Denied because of a toe or a toe-nail

“It could’ve have been 1-2 or 2-2 but that was denied because of a toe or a toe-nail being offside and those are the types of thing that keep going against us at this moment. I think this was one of our better performances this season – with a new squad. Several players had their best ever game for us also.

“We need to improve on points for sure, but If that toenail was not there then it finishes 2-2, we would have been ahead at that point so it’s not about performances – it’s about one toe nail that decides the result.

“This is not about me, a really big rebuild was necessary in the summer. When you see the numbers released on the finance report you can see why that rebuild was so necessary.

Had to cut the wage bill

“We had to cut the wage bill, build a younger squad, because the squad was too old and unaffordable to us.

“That was the decision made by everyone at the club and we all agree we have to stick by that – because it is the only way we can stay healthy as a club and to be sustainable.

“I don’t think any of the support or any of the people would want to go back to the situation of 12 years ago, that’s the reality.”

Clement continued: “So of course it’s a harder job to rebuild a squad when you can’t spend any money or bring in any experienced players. But I am totally here for the challenge and totally committed to the challenges ahead – because I am convinced in these players and convinced in the next transfer windows we can add more players and make the future of this club bright again.”

  1. You know what? We are all laughing at this guy’s excuses etc but he has my sympathy in that the board or whoever’s left in the boardroom put him up for these news conferences to deflect from their mistakes. Clement is doing all the board’s firefighting whilst they batten down the hatches.
The orcs just do what orcs do and believe every and any thing the suits say, though they never hear them say they are behind Clement 100%.
The boardroom is where the faults lie!!!!!
