When you’re in a tight spot, who are you gonna call? John Beaton of course…
So theRangers head to Aberdeen on Wednesday night knowing anything less than a win will see not only their title chances evaporate, but even slim their chances of finishing in their usual spot of second place. Indeed if they had the self awareness then that second spot should be their overriding objective.

After a slender and controversial 2-1 win over St Mirren, the Ibrox club will have to pull out all the stops to get a result against an on form Aberdeen side. The match officials on Sunday certainly played their part in denying St Mirren a penalty just before theRangers got their winner. And Celtic winger Yang must wonder why he got sent off for a high boot offence last season when the likes of Connor Baron got away with probably a worse offence yesterday at Ibrox.

The South Korean might be beginning to understand Scottish football’s dirty little secret society.
Today theRangers chances took a turn for the better as a guy that’s got them out of many a difficult spot in the past was given the seal of approval to grace the Pittodrie pitch on Wednesday evening.
No it wasn’t a player, but none other than match official John Beaton who has been given the whistle. John, is a well known supporter of the Ibrox club and he has been handed the task of taking charge of the powder keg clash. 100% impartiality is assured from the match day officials as always, with maybe the odd Honest Mistake here and there thrown into the mix. We know how it is John.
What can possibly go wrong for the Dons? Beaton has ofter delivered when the chips are down when it comes to the Ibrox club and now that VAR have discovered how to review little parts of incidents rather than look at it from start to finish (unless it suits them) then he’s unlikely to be hindered by their eagle eyes.
It seems strange that the SFA would choose such an official for such a big game. Then again it shouldn’t surprise us. And do you know what the most annoying thing is? When the inevitable happens and Aberdeen fans start bemoaning the refereeing performance they will inevitable start talking about the Old Firm (sic) getting all the decisions!
They should start be gaining a better grasp of the reality of the situation.
