Atalanta showing how good a side they really are. It also shows how much Celtic are improving at this level…

Our point in Bergamo against Atalanta on Wednesday was a very valuable one indeed, against a very decent side, and the Italians showed their prowess yesterday evening as they thumped Hellas Verona 6-1 in a Serie A clash at the Gewiss Stadium.

The Europa League winners must have been reeling as they uncharacteristically failed to hit the target against the resolute Scottish Champions, and poor Hellas Verona felt the brunt of that as Atalanta raced into a 5-0 lead after only 35 minutes in a match they would go on to win 6-1.

Celtic’s effort and dedication

That result proves again how much effort and dedication we put in at Bergamo on Wednesday night. Atalanta are a top quality elite side and the fact Celtic took a point in their own patch is indeed a feather in our cap.

Yes we rode our luck a couple of times, but you need a bit of luck at this level. Our defence however was switched on and focused for a change and we dealt with everything the goal hungry Italians threw at us.

That in Itself proves that we have indeed progressed as a team under Brendan Rodgers, and we are very much improving at this level. Wednesday’s result was a massive one for Celtic, on and off the park, make no mistake.

And come the end of January, Celtic might look back on the night in Bergamo as being highly significant.
