“I think he’s got away with one there,” Brendan Rodgers on Idah’s ankle scan

The Celtic manager made seven changes to the side that started at Fir Park at the weekend as he made maximum use of his squad after reaching the half-way stage in the run of four games in ten days.

Next up is Aberdeen

Next up is Aberdeen – who defeated theRangers 2-1 at Pittodrie last night to also go nine points clear of the hapless Ibrox outfit – and Rodgers will have rested legs in his squad for this one.

Then it gets even tougher with the Bundesliga’s form side RB Leipzig in Glasgow on Tuesday night desperate for three points after losing their opening three matches to Atletico Madrid, Juventus and Liverpool.

Disgraceful challenge

The three players who were injury concerns are Callum McGregor who sat out the last two games as a precaution amid a hip niggle, Nicolas Kuhn, who also had a hip concern after coming off the bench against Motherwell and Adam Idah who had a scan on his ankle after that disgraceful challenge at the weekend.

Luckily it looks like the Irish international striker has escaped serious damage and he will join his captain and his Nicolas Kuhn, who got the assist for Idah’s goal against Motherwell, in the squad for these two massive games.

“I think he’s got away with one there, Adam”

Speaking after the match Brendan Rodgers confirmed the good news and in particular was pleased at the scan result on Idah’s ankle. “I think he’s got away with one there,” the Celtic manager told BBC Sports Scotland.

“All three will be fine. Nicolas Kuhn had a sore hip after the game at the weekend. But he trained earlier, so that was good. Callum as well, and Adam also. We’ll see their reaction. Hopefully, it will be alright.

“I think he’s got away with one there, Adam. He’s still a bit sore, a bit swollen, but the medical team tell me he’s done a bit of work. So, hopefully no reaction to it.”

A really good result for Aberdeen

The Celtic boss was also asked for his thoughts on the table after the dust settled last night and the top two pulled further away from theRangers.

“Aberdeen have had a fantastic start. That’s a really good result for them. But as I’m sure you can respect, my focus is very much on Celtic. Our guys have made a brilliant start also, in terms of how they’ve been playing, the goals they’ve been scoring, secure defensively in the main and in a really good position in the Champions League.”
