Celtic supporters are eagerly anticipating the club’s next two critical fixtures, which could define their season. Manager Brendan Rodgers faces a pivotal matchup against Aberdeen this Saturday, followed closely by a challenging Champions League encounter with Atalanta.

The Showdown with Aberdeen

The clash with Aberdeen at Parkhead has been billed as the “game of the season.” Both Celtic and Aberdeen remain unbeaten in the Scottish Premiership, and this match will serve as a crucial test of whether Jimmy Thelin’s side can genuinely challenge the dominance of Celtic and Rangers.

Tough Trip to Atalanta

Following the domestic clash, Celtic will shift their focus to Europe, with a daunting away match against Atalanta on the horizon. Rodgers is keen to avoid a repeat of the team’s humiliating defeat in Dortmund, where Celtic conceded seven goals, leaving fans disheartened.

Petrov’s Insights: Key to Recovery

Stiliyan Petrov, a former Celtic midfielder, has emphasized the importance of a positive response following the Dortmund loss. In an interview with the Sunday Post, Petrov remarked, “The last result in the Champions League was extremely disappointing. You can’t be conceding seven goals. But Borussia Dortmund were ruthless that night and showed what a top team they are. Nothing can be done about that fixture. It’s about what comes next, that’s the most important thing. It’s about being able to recover.”

Stan Petrov underscored the challenge that awaits in Italy, suggesting, “It is Atalanta away and, maybe, that will be an even harder match than the one in Germany. The Italians are a top team and they will be formidable on their park.”

The Path to Progression

Despite the daunting challenge, Petrov believes that securing a draw in Italy would be a significant achievement for Celtic. “If Celtic can leave Italy with a point that would be a phenomenal result,” he stated. “But it’s also about the five games after that and the chance to pick up points at home.”

Petrov elaborated on the strategy for progression: “The calculations are that nine points will probably get you into the top 24. If you get 10 points then you will be going on in the tournament. With three home games left, that’s the kind of number that Brendan’s team can achieve.”

With a current tally of three points, Petrov is optimistic that Celtic can secure additional victories, particularly following their recent win against Bratislava, which he believes will boost their confidence.

Looking beyond the Atalanta match, Celtic will face RB Leipzig on 5th November and Club Brugge at home on 27 November. If Rodgers can navigate these two fixtures successfully, securing six points would significantly enhance Celtic’s chances of advancing in the competition, regardless of the outcome in Italy.

As the pressure mounts, both fans and players will be eager for a positive result against Atalanta. After a stinging defeat in Dortmund, this Celtic squad is determined to demonstrate its ability to compete with Europe’s elite clubs.
