Changes are a must for tomorrow night with two bigger games on the horizon…
Tomorrow night Celtic will continue our league campaign with a game against Dundee at Celtic Park.
The games are now coming thick and fast. After the Dundee fixture we have a Hampden date with Aberdeen in the Premier Sports Cup semi final on Saturday evening, before a Champions League clash against Leipzig at Paradise next Tuesday night..
With that in mind it’s time to take advantage of our squad depth and make a few changes ahead of the visit of the Dark Blues tomorrow night.
Squad Rotation is key
With all due respect to the Dens Park side, this should be the most ‘winnable’ game of the three, and with that in mind we should shuffle the pack with two massive games on the horizon.
Guys like Daizen Maeda and Nicolas Kuhn could do with a rest with those games in mind. Maybe even Alistair Johnston who’s played a lot of games for both club and country recently. Callum McGregor was also rested as a precaution on Sunday, and it would do him no harm to sit this one out too.
CCV should start
Cameron Carter-Vickers could come back to partner Auston Trusty and give Liam Scales a well deserved rest. Greg Taylor is also back to full fitness so he could come in for Alex Valle. So we will hardly be weakened.
Even without some of our regular starters we should have enough to beat Dundee, there really are no excuses.
We have a big squad, so now is the time to use that to our advantage. Starting tomorrow night.
Just an Ordinary Bhoy
We haven’t seen Rodgers use a squad rotation policy to date, and wouldn’t be to confident that he will introduce one either imo?
Still seems that there is way to many players within our 25man squad that Rodgers doesn’t seem to trust whatsoever?
Ralston, rocki, Welsh, Holm, Bain, monty, yang and Palma don’t seem to feature to highly within the plans of Rodgers, going by the amount of game time on offer for themselves?
So overall defensively, we have adequate cover in place, more so with cover for injuries than putting a rotation policy in play and saving upon fatigue?
The midfield areas remains a huge concern still, especially with only 5 being used, and aren’t really covered by injuries?
Would be a huge gamble to risk calmac tonight, but in turn means only 1 sub midfield player, with 2 having to play the full 90 minutes, like we did at motherwell?
The attacking areas are even worse for trying to introduce rotation, especially when we aren’t to well covered for injuries?
Forrest isn’t any longer a starting player, where he can do a decent job as an impact sub imo?
Yet Rodgers doesn’t seem to trust Palma or yang whatsoever to date?
With idah highly unlikely to feature tonight, will that mean kyogo will have to do the full 90 minutes?
Would say kuhn is potentially carrying a knock also, so could be another potential risk player, and the form of Maeda is a bit hit and miss currently?
Yet Palma and yang still don’t seem to be trusted in giving an opportunity in order to step up to the mark?
So rotation doesn’t seem the order of the day for ourselves currently, with trying to use the 5 sub rule, to save on minutes for players, and to introduce freshness from the bench within games?
Still believe that the Falkirk game was a massive setback for Rodgers and his plans regarding trying to introduce a rotation policy imo?
And wouldn’t say he is entirely happy with the level of squad depth still available to himself?
Tonight will be a massive indication to just how much trust Rodgers has with a number of players within the squad at present?
And after the sheep match, it looks like we would have to have at least a 3 goal lead tonight, before some of our more important players could be rested?
So plenty for Rodgers to mull over for tonight, but don’t think that there will be as many changes, that could serve us better, especially without a rotation policy that is to Rodgers liking in place either imo?
