Whisper it, Liam Scales has been Celtic’s best defender this season

Whisper it, Liam Scales has been Celtic’s best defender this season and has certainly proved his many doubters wrong…

Liam Scales is a man who has worked hard to earn his place in this Celtic side. From being almost out the door to being a pivotal player in our double winning campaign.

My oh my, how he’s proved to us all so wrong

Even after that he’s still viewed as more of a squad player, by an overwhelming majority of the supporters, myself included, but my oh my, how he’s proved to us all so wrong. He’s proved in no uncertain terms that he is the number one choice to start alongside Cameron Carter-Vickers.

Liam produced yet another man of the match performance in the world’s greatest club competition as we comfortably beat Slovan Bratislava, with Liam himself opening the scoring.

I would whisper it, but Liam has been our best centre back this season, even ahead of Cameron Carter-Vickers in my opinion.  CCV has been his assured solid self, but he’s been prone to a few errors lately, ones that Liam himself wouldn’t get away with from the critical element of our support.

Is CCV carrying a niggling knock?

To be fair to CCV he looks like he might be carrying a niggling injury so that could well be the reason, but Liam for me has been our stand out performer at the back. Especially these last few weeks, and for that he deserves great credit.

  1. No need to wisper it, as certainly earnt the current acclaim he is getting from the majority of our support at present?
Unfortunately it takes players such as scales, far longer to get the acceptance levels required within our club?
Even so, the consistency levels throughout the whole team have to be upheld, especially when there looks like very decent players in waiting?
It’s a position that our club could and should have been years ago imo?
But it’s finally arrived, at long last, and gives ourselves a far better overall look regarding our team/squad, and the results are there for all of us to enjoy?
For way too long, we operated at been so dependent upon individual players within a squad game, that’s required for the whole of a season?
As much as certain individual players remains vital to ourselves, to be available for the majority of our matches this season, we are still in a position to cope far better than we have done in many a season beforehand imo?
Managers in general would prefer to have a settled defensive set up in place, with limited changes within it, as much as possible?
And would agree that CCV doesn’t currently look like he’s 100% fit at present, which might start asking the question as if he can manage the 3 matches in a week?
Wasn’t expecting AJ or CCV to be available this weekend, especially as it is far better that we manage there game time carefully at present imo?
When we still have players like Trusty, ralston, rocki, Welsh and valle to call upon, its hardly a crisis that we find ourselves potentially in either?
