Sensible decision by Broony…
Scott Brown was reportedly interested in the vacant St Johnstone job, but it’s since been said that the former Celtic skipper would prefer to stay at Ayr United.
Favourites for the drop
That is, in my opinion, a more than sensible decision by Broony. Although taking the St Johnstone job would have been his first top flight job as a manager, the Perth side are looking like one of the favourites for the drop this season, and that’s not exactly the environment Broony would want to walk into.
Although he thrives on pressure and would face the challenge head on, Broony has got a great job at Somerset Park and he’s done a terrific job with the Honest Men so far.
They currently sit at the top of the table albeit having played two games more than second place Falkirk, but Broony has got them playing some good stuff and has instilled a winning mentality into the Somerset park side.
Broony is under absolutely no pressure at all at Ayr and is being allowed to build his side with no expectations.
All the credentials to be a top boss
By committing to the Honest Men it gives him more time to learn at a side who he is moulding into title challengers. Leading Ayr to promotion would be seen as a bigger achievement than winning a relegation battle with St Johnstone in my opinion.
Broony has all the credentials to be a top boss, but Ayr is the perfect club for him at this moment in time.
Chance to take Ayr back into top flight for first time since 1977
One day we might even see Scott Brown as Celtic manager but he has to make sure that he earns that opportunity should it arise and that is going to be achieved through his work at places like Ayr United. Bringing them up to the top flight of Scottish football for the first time since 1977 will be a real achievement and with promotion comes momentum.
St Johnstone on the other hand have struggled badly for the past few years amid decreasing crowds and a change of ownership which can bring its own problems.
It certainly looks like a good shout from the outside looking in for Scott Brown.
