Celtic have opened contracts talks with Alistair Johnston over an improved deal that would take the 25-year-old to become one of the top earners at the club.
According to Record Sport, Celtic have contacted Johnston’s representatives about a new deal.
The Scottish Champions are keen to tie the Canadian Internationalist down on a long term deal with the fullback impressing in his first eighteen months with the club. Despite having three years remaining on his contract, Brendan Rodgers wants to tie the player down on improved terms to fend off any potential future interest from clubs.
The player was forced off after just twenty minutes on international duty with a suspected hamstring strain. However, Canada boss Jesse Marsch conceded that this was just precautionary.
The ex-Montreal right back has been brilliant since making his debut at Ibrox and replacing Josip Juranovic in the Celtic team.
