Celtic have opened contracts talks with Alistair Johnston over an improved deal that would take the 25-year-old to become one of the top earners at the club.
According to Record Sport, Celtic have contacted Johnston’s representatives about a new deal.
The Scottish Champions are keen to tie the Canadian Internationalist down on a long term deal with the fullback impressing in his first eighteen months with the club. Despite having three years remaining on his contract, Brendan Rodgers wants to tie the player down on improved terms to fend off any potential future interest from clubs.
The player was forced off after just twenty minutes on international duty with a suspected hamstring strain. However, Canada boss Jesse Marsch conceded that this was just precautionary.
The ex-Montreal right back has been brilliant since making his debut at Ibrox and replacing Josip Juranovic in the Celtic team.

We can’t go wrong with extending Johnson to the club. I’m a Canadian Celtic supporter and I will tell you… good old Canadian Bhoys that grow up proper and have an understanding of hockey mentality GET the brotherhood. It’s the only team sport on the planet where you knock the stuffing out of each other and line up on the ice and shake hands afterwards. Thats respect for the sport and your fellow counterparts.
