The brilliant moment that Fraser Forster silenced the Rangers end at Hampden

The new Premiership season kicks off this weekend and the Scottish Champions host Kilmarnock on Sunday as the league flag is unfurled. As we prepare for another campaign, it is always enjoyable to relive some memories from previous games.

The moment selected comes from the 2019 Scottish League Cup Final at Hampden in which Neil Lennon’s team faced off against Steven Gerrard’s Rangers. Christopher Jullien gave Celtic the lead with a cultured finish after a good ball from a Ryan Christie free kick.

However, shortly afterwards, Jeremie Frimpong hauled Morelos to the floor to give them the chance to draw level. Willie Collum showed no hesitation and showed the Dutchman the red card.

Renowned Rangers penalty taker, James Tavernier, passed up the opportunity to score in a Cup Final and handed the ball to his colleague.

Hampden waited and as Morelos stepped forward, a Rangers supporter started filming…

Fraser Forster guessed correctly and batted the effort away, which kept Celtic ahead and helped them win their tenth successive trophy.

The pain is excellent to relive as the rangers supporters go from excitement to utter rage that the Colombian could not convert.

Celtic were poor that day but found a way to win against Rangers, who were throwing everything at Lennon’s side. The club will call that there was a summer of discontent the season before, which inevitably concluded with Brendan leaving for Leicester. The club must ensure that they are able to meet the manager’s ambitions and provide him with the quality required to succeed.
