Stoke City deal is great for both Bosun Lawal and Celtic

Bosun Lawal’s £2m plus add-ons transfer deal is win-win for both club and player…

Bosun Lawal is close to joining Stoke City for £2 million plus add ons. The Irish midfielder had a productive loan spell at Fleetwood last season, and was tipped to make his mark under Brendan Rodgers.

Offer too good to reject

I, like many supporters, thought Bosun was going to be a part of the first team squad this season after his impressive performances in England and also for the Ireland U21s, but in the end that sort of money is hard to turn down for a player we signed for a small fee from Watford, and was never a integral part of the first team squad.

Bosun is 21 and after having a taste of regular first team football last season, he will want it even more, something he wasn’t guaranteed at Celtic. Indeed as he has moved to midfield his chances at Celtic would have been limited to say the least.

Bosun’s international ambitions

He also has international ambitions with the Republic of Ireland and after representing the under 21 side on numerous occasions, he will want to make the step up and first team football at a good level with Stoke will help him achieve that.

As for Celtic, they will receive a handsome £2 million with add-ons (which could easily add another £1m to the fee) and get another player off the books which will help in the pursuit of new players. It’s a win-win situation for both club and player.

Best of luck to Bosun and Stoke City.
