Celtic’s 3-0 victory over St Mirren on Sunday keeps Brendan Rodgers’ side two points ahead of theRangers as they prepare for the crucial Glasgow Derby next weekend at Celtic Park…
This dominant performance was even more impressive considering that Celtic played without key midfielder Matt O’Riley, who has now made the transfer to Brighton in the English Premier League.
Rodgers’ witty response to transfer budget questions
With O’Riley’s departure, Celtic stands to gain a significant financial boost, potentially allowing Rodgers to strengthen the squad before the transfer window closes. When asked by BBC reporter Kheredine Idessane on BBC SportSound whether he would have the full £30 million to spend on new signings, Rodgers delivered a characteristically sharp response.
Laughing off the notion of such a substantial outlay, Rodgers remarked, “You’ve covered Celtic for a long time, eh? So you should know that’s a question you don’t even need to waste your breath on. I think we’ll find players and we’ll bring players in hopefully.”
When pressed further about the possibility of bringing in multiple players with the funds from O’Riley’s sale, Rodgers remained cautious but optimistic. “I don’t know. We have to see what we can do in the market. But what I do know is come next Friday, we’ll have improved the squad,” he added.
Celtic’s Transfer Priorities
Despite the club’s financial strength, it is unlikely that Celtic will spend the full £30 million before the transfer window closes. However, Rodgers still has the resources to address key areas in the squad. particularly with Rodgers has indicated a need for two new midfielders with news this evening that Celtic have made a move for Mateusz Bogusz from Los Angeles FC. Another centre-back for added depth in defence, maybe another winger too, if there are a few more deemed surplus to requirements before the window closes.
If Rodgers can secure these reinforcements before the deadline, Celtic fans can look forward to the rest of the season with renewed optimism, especially with the Glasgow Derby on the horizon, then the Champions League.
For ourselves being the biggest and best club in Scotland by some considerable distance, we still haven’t even got our homegrown quota filled yet by the looks of things?
Has Rodgers totally overlooked this requirement that is needed for ourselves?
Very embarrassing situation to be finding ourselves still in at present?
Only 5 that should be looking upon as potential certainties at this stage?
Is Mikey Johnston going to be a 6th homegrown or not?
Possibly looking like he will have to be at this stage, as no name been mentioned as a possible Scottish replacement still?
Is McGowan actually in the plans of Rodgers whatsoever?
Looking like being the easiest midfield player to be trying to have in place for the Derby this weekend, I would have thought?
Couldn’t even get 6 midfield players into the weekend squad, yet had 5 wide options and only played 3?
Would have thought our overall squad, would have a better look about it for this weekend, but still looking like a longshot that it will now, especially in our midfield areas?
Even if McGowan should be added?
Then who and where is the extra player still required, going to fit into our finalised squad?
It’s not like we have a massive pick of players to choose from, to fill a requirement needed, and still a long way from actually doing so?
So when we are looking at positions to be hopefully filled, are there any potential plans for Scottish players to be filling them as a requirement for our finalised 25man squad?
Starting to look like Bain might have to be made a no2 keeper now, to help fill the requirement for the biggest and best club in Scottish football at this stage?
Even the scum have been able to handle this issue far better than ourselves during this window?
