Peter Grant praises Celtic’s evolution under Brendan Rodgers

Celtic have begun the new season in impressive fashion, securing three comfortable victories in the Scottish Premiership and progressing smoothly in the League Cup.

Building on the momentum from their successful U.S. Tour, Brendan Rodgers’ side has embraced a dynamic, attacking style of play that has thrilled supporters, reminiscent of the approach under former manager Ange Postecoglou.

Peter Grant applauds Celtic’s adaptation

However, there is a notable difference in this year’s team compared to last season. Former Celtic star Peter Grant has observed these changes and is full of praise for the improvements Rodgers has made.

Speaking on BBC Radio Scotland, Grant highlighted how Celtic’s performance in their recent 3-0 win over St Mirren was particularly impressive, especially given the absence of key midfielder Matt O’Riley. Grant lauded the team’s work rate and cohesion, emphasizing their effectiveness both on and off the ball.

“The play in the first half was scintillating at times,” Grant said. “Big players playing really, really well. They know where each other is. It was interesting to see how Bernardo came in and did exceptionally well, especially in the first half. But they were outstanding all over the pitch, particularly without the ball.”

Intensity in Pressing: A Key Difference

One of the standout features of Rodgers’ current squad, according to Grant, is their relentless intensity in pressing when they lose possession. This marks a departure from last season, where the team occasionally lacked the same urgency in winning back the ball.

Grant noted, “They’re getting it back quickly, their effort and commitment to do that is evident. I think that’s the different thing they’ve added this year.”

This approach allows Celtic to dominate their opponents by keeping the ball in the opposition’s half, reducing defensive errors, and maintaining pressure. Grant also commended the two centre-backs for their excellent handling of challenges, particularly in difficult conditions.

Celtic poised for more success

Celtic’s early-season performances suggest they are a force to be reckoned with, and the team looks sharper and more dangerous than ever. With the Glasgow Derby at Celtic Park this Sunday, Brendan Rodgers has the opportunity to make a significant statement with a victory over theRangers—a result that would open a five points gap on the latest Ibrox club, and further boost the team’s confidence as they continue their pursuit of domestic and European success.
