Money talks but no way Brighton are bigger than Celtic

Brighton aren’t bigger than Celtic, but they have more financial muscle, that’s just the truth.

Many Celtic supporters are upset at the thought of losing Matt O’Riley and understandably so. The thought of Matt going to a side such as Brighton is regarded by most as a step down from playing in front of sixty thousand fans while competing for trophies and playing Champions League football.

They would be correct as swapping all that for mid-table mediocrity in the EPL is not comparable, but the truth is that it’s not entirely about football.

Brighton can triple Matt’s salary

Brighton despite being much smaller in comparison to Celtic can triple Matt’s salary, something we can’t due to our financial constraints due to our current landscape. They can also offer him the ‘glitz and glamour’ of the EPL.

Even the likes of Atletico Madrid find it hard to compete with mid table English sides such is the huge finances on offer down south courtesy of Sky TV, so we are not alone in our frustrations.

The likes of Brighton can’t compete with us in terms of prestige, but they unfortunately blow us out of the water when it comes to money. That’s just the reality of the modern game.

Money talks, sadly.

  1. Your correct of course regarding the wages on offer elsewhere?
However, just how many millions does a player need to earn, before they feel financially secure?
Oreily current contract is already worth millions in wages at present?
Could that be boosted furthermore by loyalty payments by staying with ourselves?
Oreily has the potential to be with ourselves for the next 10 years if he wanted to do so imo?
Just how much, could that potentially work out to be worth, over such a period?
He possibly won’t get anything close to what he can gain with ourselves within his footballing career imo?
So although we remain a club that doesn’t stand in the way of a player, who potentially wants to move on, for financial reasons above anything else in most cases?
Still leaves the question, as if our wage budget was better used, in terms of reducing waste upon wages that contribute nothing towards our team?
Then couldn’t such wages be used to try and actually being able to keep such players as Oreily?
I know that we have a fairly successful player trading model in operation at present?
But does that mean every single player has to have a price tag upon them also?
With the extra money available within CL now, and that’s without getting the results to boost the earnings even moreso for our club?
A potential dangerous game the board could be looking at playing regarding the overall money situation within our club at present?
Selling Oreily, would possibly give ourselves another profit gaining window?
Not getting an overall squad in place for such a challenge ahead, but claiming a profit within the transfer window, certainly won’t please our support if the results within CL aren’t to our liking?
At present I don’t feel the need to be pressing the panic button, that so many within our support seem to be happy enough to press?
Would rather trust Rodgers judgement on making the decisions required to give ourselves the best possible opportunities available for the challenges of the season ahead imo?
