Medical completed – Celtic agree £6m deal to sign central defender

Auston Trusty is on his way to Celtic. The USMNT defender has reportedly agreed a five-year deal to sign for Celtic after the club reached a £6m deal with Sheffield United. The ex-Arsenal stopper has no doubt fancied a crack at the UEFA Champions League as well as competing for silverware rather than competing in the hectic Championship.

Trusty is a left-sided central defender that Brendan Rodgers will likely see as a potential partner for Cameron Carter-Vickers. The pair have featured in the US National Team together but will be looking to forge a solid defensive pairing going forward.

Trusty is expected to be unveiled on Deadline Day alongside Arne Engels, who is set to sign for £11m. The Belgian midfielder has been a primary target of the club over the last few weeks but another defender had been spoken about by the manager.

Celtic have been looking to add another defender to their ranks with Yuki Kobayashi and Gustaf Lagerbielke being allowed to depart. Trusty was identified and the club have been working on a deal to bring him into the club over the last week. It follows that Celtic will have five central defenders with Scales, Stephen Welsh and Maik Nawrocki all deputising.
