Matt O’Riley looks like he will be leaving the club with a big money move to Brighton looking increasingly likely. The actual fee has not been mentioned, but it’s reckoned to be as big as the fees if not more than we received for Kieran Tierney and Jota.

Matt will be a big loss and despite being handsomely compensated, a large percentage will need to be reinvested in a quality replacement to soften the blow of losing such a vital player.

No ‘projects’ or bargain basement signings. Celtic must re-invest a huge chunk of that into bringing in a quality calibre of player. We need to replace like with like if possible.

Other areas of our squad that are in need of upgrading

I’m not naive, and know we aren’t going to break our current transfer record, but a signing in the £6-£8 million category is what’s required.

We have the cash, we had it before the record breaking sale of Matt, so that just further swells the coffers. It’s time we put it to good use, not just on a replacement for Matt, but other areas of our squad that are in need of upgrading too.
