Celtic midfielder Daniel Kelly is on the verge of joining Millwall this summer after both clubs agreed on a £400,000 transfer fee, ending his time in the Hoops much earlier than expected.

The 18-year-old had already secured a pre-contract agreement with Millwall last week, which would have seen him move to the English side in January. However both clubs opted for the transfer to happen now, allowing Kelly to make the switch immediately.

Kelly rejected a new contract at Celtic

After Kelly rejected a long term contract offered by Celtic, Brendan Rodgers quickly relegated Kelly to the B team. , Kelly’s refusal to extend his contract disappointed many Celtic fans who had high hopes for his future at the club.

According to Football Scotland, all aspects of Kelly’s permanent move to Millwall are progressing smoothly, with the player scheduled to undergo a medical today. We understand that the medical has been passed and the deal is about to be announced.. This swift resolution ensures that Kelly can start his career in English football immediately, rather than waiting until 1st January 2025.

Millwall a stepping stone to Premier League move

Once considered a rising star at Celtic, Kelly’s decision to reject the club’s offer and sign with Millwall marks a significant shift in his career trajectory. As he prepares to join The Den, the Championship will provide a new stage for Kelly to prove himself, with the plan being to attract Premier League interest down the line.

While the £400,000 transfer fee offers some consolation to Celtic, the situation underscores the challenges the club faces in retaining emerging talents amidst the allure of opportunities elsewhere.

Celtic has now lost both Daniel Kelly and Rocco Vata

Both Daniel Kelly and Rocco Vata will now play their football in the London area in the English Championship rather than as he best young players coming through the Celtic Academy, make their mark in the Celtic first team.

Both choose to leave Celtic.  Time will tell if those were the correct calls.

🚨🤩 Understand Daniel Kelly’s move to Millwall from Celtic is done.

⛑️ Medical passed today and announcement is expected very soon.
