Celtic’s winning mentality a huge motivation for Kasper Schmeichel

Celtic goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel has confirmed that there was interest from the Premier League before he signed for the Scottish Champions.

The 37-year-old signed a one-year deal to replace Joe Hart as the club’s No.1 after leading Denmark at the Euros.

Speaking to Tipsbladet, Schmeichel admitted that there had been interest from the Premier League but the allure of Celtic made it an easy decision for him.

It is always a pat on the back

“It is true that there was some interest from the English Premier League. It is always a pat on the back with interest from clubs from such a big league, but I must also be completely honest and say that it was not about clubs at all up at the top of the English table.

“In a top club like Celtic, who are always chasing trophies, there is a lot at stake in each and every match, and I love the demand that every time you go on the pitch, you must only win.

“I could feel that this is what I wanted, so it was a surprisingly easy decision.”

The Brendan Factor

The Dane was brilliant for Leicester City, becoming a key player in the sides that won the Premier League, FA Cup and Community Shield as well as two top five finishes.

Given the success of his time with Rodgers at Leicester, it was always touted as a possibility that the pair would have a reunion at the club this summer.

A Falkirk Re-Union in League Cup Quarter Final

Schmeichel hasn’t had much to do in his first few games but it is clear that he is relishing the opportunity to compete for silverware with Celtic. In order to make it to Hampden, Celtic need to beat Schmeichel’s former club, Falkirk, in the League Cup Quarter Final at Celtic Park in September.
