As the transfer window enters its final week, Celtic’s search for a new left-back has become a pressing issue.
With Greg Taylor as the only senior option in the position and his contract set to expire next year, Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers faces mounting pressure to bolster the squad before the deadline in numerous positions including left back.
Initial Targets Cool, New Options Emerge
Supporters have been eager for the club to address the left-back situation throughout the summer, but efforts to secure reinforcements have hit obstacles. Initial talks with Wolverhampton Wanderers about a loan deal for Hugo Bueno have stalled, leaving Celtic to explore other options.
One player who remains on their radar is Liverpool’s Owen Beck. The 21-year-old Welshman has attracted interest from several clubs, including Queens Park Rangers and Leeds United, but Celtic could secure his services on either a permanent or loan basis.
Andy Walker Weighs in on Potential Signings
Former Celtic player Andy Walker recently shared his thoughts on The Go Radio Football Show, using Beck as an example of the potential value in the transfer market.
Walker drew parallels to the signing of Didier Agathe, who joined Celtic for just £50,000 and became a standout performer despite his modest price tag. “It would just be another option, and then it remains to be seen,” Walker said, emphasizing that players can often exceed expectations when surrounded by better talent.
He also noted that while Celtic has a history of finding hidden gems, there is a growing expectation for the club to invest in proven quality.
Celtic Must Act Quickly in the Transfer Market
With the clock ticking, Celtic needs to make significant progress in securing their transfer targets. Talks are ongoing with LAFC regarding Mateusz Bogusz, a promising prospect who could command a fee exceeding £8 million. However, with LAFC reluctant to let him go before next week, Celtic’s pursuit of other targets, including Beck, remains crucial.
As the transfer window draws to a close, fans are eagerly awaiting reinforcements across several positions. Celtic now faces the challenge of delivering the quality signings needed to strengthen the squad and meet the expectations of their supporters.
How can we say with any form of certainty that Rodgers hasn’t decided to keep Anderson as a backup option in the LB position at present?
With this rumour regarding Trusty, who could cover both the left sided CB position along with the LB position as well, in a similar manner as scales?
Could allow Rodgers more potential available options within the left side of the defence, especially with the amount of uncertainty surrounding Taylor and his contract?
Anderson could well help ourselves with the homegrown issue quota we are still struggling with?
The potential problem with the left side of our defence, is that if all 4 full backs were available for a 20man SPFL match day squad, then ralston would remain favourite for the position as sub within most of them games?
So potentially not to much game time is potentially on offer for a backup LB at present?
Yet with potentially having scales, Taylor and Trusty within a match day squad, possibly provides ourselves with far greater cover for matches than we had in place regarding the left side of our defence last season imo?
The downside is weather the quality issue will have been fulfilled?
Yet with the length of time we have operated with nothing sorted out regarding the left side of the defence, then suppose any form of a potential solution would be welcome at this stage?
