According to Anthony Joseph at Sky Sports Celtic have upped their offer for Arne Engels with a new bid of £10 million being submitted meaning if a deal is reached, the young Belgian will become our record signing. As mentioned on The Celtic Star yesterday FC Augsburg are looking for a slightly higher figure, despite Celtic now meeting their original valuation.

Rodgers clearly wants to sign Engels

Brendan Rodgers clearly wants the midfielder and the club is certainly backing him in his pursuit for the highly rated 20-year old as we aim to plug the gap made by the departure of Matt O’Riley.

It remains to be seen if FC Augsburg will accept the new offer, but the player is keen on the move so hopefully that can sway the Bundesliga club into reluctantly parting with their start asset, although it might mean a slight increase in the offer price will be necessary.

This deal shows we are prepared to spend big in our bid to give Brendan Rodgers the quality he needs to make us a more formidable side.

Whether this deal goes through is another thing, but it shows we are looking in a better quality of market than we have in the past. Let’s hope this one and a few more get over the line before the window slams shut on Friday night.
