Celtic have agreed to a £6 million deal with Sheffield United to sign U.S. international Auston Trusty.
The 26-year-old defender, who has been granted permission to speak with Celtic, is currently in London to undergo a medical. As reported by the Daily Record, personal terms have already been settled, with Trusty set to sign a five-year contract at Celtic Park.
Work permit applied for
However, the deal now hinges on whether Celtic can secure a work permit before the transfer window closes. The club plans to begin the visa application process first thing Friday morning, with hopes of fast-tracking approval before the 11 p.m. deadline.
Trusty to Bolster Celtic’s Defence Alongside Carter-Vickers
Brendan Rodgers is eager to partner Trusty with fellow American defender Cameron Carter-Vickers as part of a strengthened defensive lineup. The move signals Celtic’s intent to solidify their backline as they look to maintain their dominance in the Scottish Premiership.
Arne Engels incoming
In addition to the Trusty deal, Celtic have agreed a record £11 million transfer for Augsburg midfielder Arne Engels. The 20-year-old has agreed to a four-year contract and is expected to arrive in Scotland imminently with a medical taking place on Friday as the deal is rushed through.
