Gordon Strachan outlined his thoughts on Brendan Rodgers saying that he wants more signings in at Celtic and the former Celtic manager tried to give an example of what life is like in the hot-seat managing a huge club like Celtic…
“The funny thing about Brendan saying he wants more players is, and we need to clarify that this isn’t a manager who is getting in a huff because he hasn’t got any new toys to play with, is that people ask him the question and he has to respond to it.
“Would you like new signings, Brendan? Yes I would. It’s not like Brendan comes out and says: “I need new players, give me new players, I want new players,” Strachan, speaking to topoffshorecasinos.com said with a certain degree of that dry sense of humour of his.
“If you asked Brendan after the Killie game, ‘Brendan, would you like to go in your car and go home and have a glass of wine?’ He would say: “Yes, thank you.” That’s what I want to do. That’s where I want to go. I don’t want to speak to you guys. I don’t want to explain myself every time I get here. I’d rather be at home,” Strachan added.
Brendan has spoken about strengthening the squad, mentioning having a good crack at the Champions League. So what areas does Gordon Strachan think he will be looking to improve?
“I think Brendan will be looking at every part of the squad. It’s about having greater depth, better options and having players that can step into the team without losing that quality.
At the moment, I think the most pressing position is striker. If Kyogo gets injured, there’s nobody to play there. That needs to be addressed and quickly,” Strachan noted.
Not exactly true?
Even without idah this weekend, we still hopefully have 7 attacking options available, with only 6 of them possibly within the match day squad?
Rodgers has already tried Mikey Johnston in the central striker role during pre season?
And that’s without Maeda, who the Japanese manager rated higher than kyogo in the position?
Rodgers will possibly be looking to finalise his squad with at least 7 attacking options within it imo?
Within those 7 places there should be enough flexibility, that the 3 places will have 3 options within it imo?
That in turn allows Rodgers options available to him, if and when injuries do occur over the course of the season?
Rodgers could well decide to keep 8 options available to him?
But still think that the CL squad will consist of 7 imo?
The big question still remains as to whether Rodgers sees Mikey Johnston as a requirement within our 8 homegrown quota?
If that’s the case then Rodgers might feel he needs 8 attacking options within his 25man squad when finalised?
Would be surprised to see Mikey Johnston as a success in a central strikers position, yet was pleasantly surprised with how he got on in the role in pre season, especially in the Chelsea game?
Would still be very surprised if it was a successful move by Rodgers, yet who for certain can make the claim to say it won’t work out either?
Im sure the Japanese manager is no fool but if I were him and I had to choose between Maeda and Kyogo as my top striker that decision would be made in the blink of an eye .. 😊
