Why Football is Never, Ever Coming Home

It’s coming home? It’s never been ‘home’ the delusion of the English is just as prevalent as that of theRangers. Deluded hand in hand.

After listening to weeks of English supporters and pundits alike bleating about winning Euro 2024, football is unfortunately for them not ‘coming home’ after all.

That begs the question, what does the phrase ‘it’s coming home’ actually mean. The term of course came to prominence back in 1996 when Baddiel and Skinner unleashed that annoying anthem Three Lions.

England have never won a European Championship, so that would make it virtually impossible for that trophy to ‘come home’ wouldn’t it? If it’s never actually been there in the first place.

Yes it’s a puzzler, but it hasn’t stopped the English supporters, the media and even the players sharing their disappointment at not bringing the trophy ‘home’.

Spain who were deserved victors over the English have now won the competition a record four times, so if anyone had a claim to the trophy ‘coming home’ it’s them. Or Germany who have won it three times, or Italy and France who have two apiece. Even Denmark and Greece have a greater claim than the English having one it once.

But do those nations bump their gums about the trophy ‘coming home’ no they don’t, they just get on with the job in hand without any of the arrogance of the serial failures that are England.

Serial losers

Talking about serial failures, that brings my attention to theRangers. Just like the English they too are deluded when it comes to making such ludicrous claims.

They often talk about ‘restoring natural order’ in regard to being the top side in Scotland, despite winning just three major honours in their history.

Just like the English they have made themselves believe they own something that’s never actually been in their possession. It’s quite tragic really, but maybe explains why theRangers supporters show a bit of fondness towards the English national team.

They are two cheeks of the same backside, two peas in a pod, cut from the same cloth. Deluded hand in hand.

Scotland is the real home of football

Oh and if you want to talk about It’s coming hime being about the origins of the game then it’s really unlikely to ever come home because it’s real home is not in England at all but in Scotland. Scotland were of course the only team to beat Spain in their route to lifting the trophy with that 2-0 win at Hampden in the qualifying stages.

Just saying.
