Video: Stephen Welsh reflects on Celtic’s opening game of the pre-season

The Celtic YouTube page has uploaded a video of Stephen Welsh talking about Celtic’s opening match of the pre-season.

Celtic started their pre-season preparations yesterday when they faced Ayr United away at Somerset Park. With several players still out due to international duties, and the want to integrate players into the first team, Brendan fielded a squad of mixed-experience, with some players from the B-team making their first appearance for the first team.

Stephen Welsh reflected on this and admits that even though it’s only a pre-season match, there is still a certain degree of pressure put on the new players when making their first appearance for the first team. In the absence of Callum McGregor, Welsh wore the captain’s armband for the first half of the game.

  1. Still uncertain where Welsh Celtic career is actually heading?
Still remains a decent enough squad player for ourselves, but to what degree at present?
Well capable of producing some very good performances, but also capable of producing high profile mistakes also, so these inconsistencies still exist within the game of Welsh?
Still think Welsh is some way away from ever making a strong enough claim to make himself a 1st choice CB for ourselves, and doubt that will ever become the case for himself either imo?
Currently see Welsh as a 5th choice CB as possibly 3rd choice in the left or right CB positions imo?
Obviously helps with him being Scottish to help fill our 8 homegrown quota, and certainly worthy of a position within our 25man squad for next season imo?
How long that current scenario remains in place for Welsh remains to be seen, especially with Murray and lawal as potential challengers for his position in the making also, so another big season awaits for Welsh still next season?
Currently believe rocki just shades Welsh in quality regarding back up for CCV, but rocki injury issues could well change that current situation in the making imo?
With hopefully another left sided CB going to be signed, to add to scales, then the CB options available to ourselves next season, should hopefully be solid enough for the coming season imo?
Even if the growing injury issues regarding rocki, is starting to become concerning?
Even so, getting a keeper in quickly now, to form relationships with our CB options remains crucial to ourselves also?
Bain won’t be our no1 keeper choice, so wasting time in the work required for ourselves, still remains our priority in getting sorted, sooner rather than later also imo?
