Rest of Scottish football has a right to know the Hampden rental cost

It has now been confirmed that theRangers have struck a deal with the SFA and the SPFL over the temporary use of Hampden for their start of season fixtures due to Ibrox being in no fit state to host any form of football.

As part of the agreement it’s been revealed that the Ibrox club have ‘committed’ to fund an accelerated pitch growth programme to ensure the national stadium’s surface is ready for the latest Ibrox club’s first ‘home’ game against Motherwell on 10th August.

But the total cost is not on record, as it should be as Celtic and all the other member clubs deserve to know the full details.

Those of us old enough to remember can recall how the SFA treated Celtic when we rented Hampden for a full season back in 1994/95 when Celtic Park was being re-developed by Fergus McCann.

Everything from agreements on the rent to the catering arrangements were scrutinised by our temporary landlords. They made life as difficult as possible for our club and revelled in our predicament.

Celtic were being charged a seven figure fee by the governing body to play at the national stadium and that was 30 years ago, but you can bet your life theRangers are getting ‘mates rates’.

The question is why? We all deserve to know the total cost of their temporary relocation.
