Queen’s Park 4-6 Celtic – Fitness is all you get from pre-season friendlies

You can’t take anything from friendlies, good or bad…

Brendan Rodgers’ Celtic squad had another worthwhile work out last night as most of our players got some much needed fitness into their legs before embarking on a trip to the United States.

Ten goals scored as Celtic win 6-4

Celtic took on Queen’s Park at lesser Hampden and it was a goal fest as the Hoops ran out the winners in a 6-4 victory.

Some might raise their eyebrows at the side conceding four goals to ‘lesser’ opposition, but just like us scoring six goals you can’t really take anything significant from the game, other than the fitness considerations and maybe some encouragement that Kyogo looks to have his shooting boots on early in the season.

Friendly’s aren’t taken seriously by players or coaches and the majority of supporters. It’s a fitness exercise, nothing else. Especially in pre season. At the end of the day friendly’s are nothing but a glorified kick about.

The competitive mindset isn’t there and it’s just a case of getting some much needed match practice for the challenges ahead.

Kyogo’s hat-trick

So while it was good to see Kyogo get a hat trick and rather concerning to see us conceded four goals, it doesn’t mean much in the terms of the bigger picture, although shipping four goals certainly fuels the argument that we need a first pick keeper signed to replace Joe Hart asap.

But we all knew that ahead of beating Queen’s Park 6-4.
