“My 12 years at Celtic comes to an end earlier than expected,” Rocco Vata

Rocco Vata’s message to Celtic after his decision to accept a four year contract offer from Watford, left many supporters asking if there was more to this frustrating development than has so far become clear.

Vata and his family always hinted at the Ireland u21 forward’s preference was to remain at Celtic but despite various contract negotiations taking place, no progress was ever seem to have been made.

Rocco’s farewell message reads as follows: “My 12 years at Celtic comes to an end earlier than expected. Would like to thank all the staff I’ve worked with throughout the years for developing me into the player and person I am today. And the fans who believed in me and supported me. I wish Celtic all the best next year.”

‘Earlier than expected’

The ‘earlier than expected’ remark seems to have set tongues wagging as supporters reckoned that this explains the reason why Rocco opted for Watford rather than Celtic.  Maybe it was the money on offer, or maybe it was the guarantee of more first team opportunities? Who knows.

But neither Ange Postecoglou nor Brendan Rodgers were minded to select Rocco ahead of the quality forwards at their disposal so maybe Rocco is just a realist rather than a dreamer.

Whatever the reason, it’s water under the bridge now, Rocco is a Watford player now and we’ll all wish him all the best down there.  The good ship Celtic will sail on untroubled too much by this setback.
