Just over a week to Flag Day, but there’s a red warning for Celtic

The Rangers have signed players while Celtic have not, apart from replacing two goalkeepers. There have also been several departures…

With just eight days until the start of the new season, we are actually a much weaker as a squad than last campaign.

Joe Hart and Ben Siegrist have left and have been replaced by Kasper Schmeichel and Viljami Sinisalo, so we can have no complaints about that.

Bernardo deal has dragged on all summer

However as far as the outfield members of our squad are concerned, we are much weaker as things stand.

The signing of Paulo Bernardo may be imminent, but it still leaves us short in other departments. It has dragged on all summer so hopefully he’s signed and in the squad for next weekend.

Adam Idah is back at Norwich with a return looking uncertain, while Oh has signed for Genk so that leaves us with just Kyogo as our one and only striking option.

Greg Taylor remains our only option at left back with Alexandro Bernabei on loan at Brazilian side Internacional, and even he has not signed a new contract as he enters the final year of his existing deal, presumably looking for a substantial pay rise.

The pursestrings at Celtic Park

That’s key areas that have still to be addressed with the season all most upon us, and that is down to those in charge of the pursestrings at Celtic Park.

While over at Ibrox our rivals who may be struggling financially have signed a few players albeit on loan coupled with getting rid of some of their deadwood and will probably start the season stronger than the last one. That’s a truth that some don’t want to admit as we revel in their midsummer madness.

That’s totally unacceptable from our part. Yes there is still a good few weeks of the transfer window to go, but we should have had most of our business done by now. Time is ticking and we can’t afford to hang around.

Michael Nicholson jetted into the States and will be at the game against Chelsea today. Hopefully Brendan Rodgers will get some clarity from the Celtic CEO so that he can start to look at the team his is going to put out next weekend.

Heaven forbid but what do we do if Kyogo picks up an injury? Go into the season opener with zero strikers but with £100m resting in the PLC bank. That’s a horrible thought and also an unacceptable potential situation.

Celtic have rejected multiple lowball bids for Matt O’Riley

Celtic have rejected multiple bids now for Matt O’Riley, three from Atalanta and one apparently from Southampton. All failed to get anywhere near Celtic valuation so the lowballing attempts have all been thrown out, and rightly so.

Yet Celtic are using the same fruitless tactics on Norwich City. If we don’t meet their valuation for Adam Idah then they are unlikely to sell. If Celtic have a top offer that is below Norwich’s valuation then surely that showed by proposed with the clarity that Celtic will move on if that final offer is rejected.

Then Brendan has a week to sign an alternative. We must have a list surely?
