The Rangers have signed players while Celtic have not, apart from replacing two goalkeepers. There have also been several departures…
With just eight days until the start of the new season, we are actually a much weaker as a squad than last campaign.
Joe Hart and Ben Siegrist have left and have been replaced by Kasper Schmeichel and Viljami Sinisalo, so we can have no complaints about that.
Bernardo deal has dragged on all summer
However as far as the outfield members of our squad are concerned, we are much weaker as things stand.
The signing of Paulo Bernardo may be imminent, but it still leaves us short in other departments. It has dragged on all summer so hopefully he’s signed and in the squad for next weekend.
Adam Idah is back at Norwich with a return looking uncertain, while Oh has signed for Genk so that leaves us with just Kyogo as our one and only striking option.
Greg Taylor remains our only option at left back with Alexandro Bernabei on loan at Brazilian side Internacional, and even he has not signed a new contract as he enters the final year of his existing deal, presumably looking for a substantial pay rise.
The pursestrings at Celtic Park
That’s key areas that have still to be addressed with the season all most upon us, and that is down to those in charge of the pursestrings at Celtic Park.
While over at Ibrox our rivals who may be struggling financially have signed a few players albeit on loan coupled with getting rid of some of their deadwood and will probably start the season stronger than the last one. That’s a truth that some don’t want to admit as we revel in their midsummer madness.
That’s totally unacceptable from our part. Yes there is still a good few weeks of the transfer window to go, but we should have had most of our business done by now. Time is ticking and we can’t afford to hang around.
Michael Nicholson jetted into the States and will be at the game against Chelsea today. Hopefully Brendan Rodgers will get some clarity from the Celtic CEO so that he can start to look at the team his is going to put out next weekend.
Heaven forbid but what do we do if Kyogo picks up an injury? Go into the season opener with zero strikers but with £100m resting in the PLC bank. That’s a horrible thought and also an unacceptable potential situation.
Celtic have rejected multiple lowball bids for Matt O’Riley
Celtic have rejected multiple bids now for Matt O’Riley, three from Atalanta and one apparently from Southampton. All failed to get anywhere near Celtic valuation so the lowballing attempts have all been thrown out, and rightly so.
Yet Celtic are using the same fruitless tactics on Norwich City. If we don’t meet their valuation for Adam Idah then they are unlikely to sell. If Celtic have a top offer that is below Norwich’s valuation then surely that showed by proposed with the clarity that Celtic will move on if that final offer is rejected.
Then Brendan has a week to sign an alternative. We must have a list surely?
Just an Ordinary Bhoy
A total shambles as usual by our incompetent board,I can see no improvement from Rodgers situation first time as manager.there’s no point in a massive bank balance if it isn’t used to improve the squad, who’s benefiting from it?
Dearie me, we have currently 30 players under contract, trying to earn a position in a 20man SPFL match day squad for next weekend at present?
Some are going on, as if we are scratching about just to get a team available for the game?
Our 20man SPFL match day squad, will possibly consist of 2 keepers, 3 CB, 3 FB, 6 midfielders and 6 attacking options?
Yet when you start putting names into the positions available, so many are automatic choices, at present imo?
So potentially without idah is the obvious position, not totally filled at present?
Yet are we going to continue with the panicking for every match, if a certain player isn’t available for a match?
We already have competition in place just for match day squad places, with growing competition in place for a few starting positions, and decent enough subs bench for the 5 sub rule also?
Our overall squad is in a much better and stronger position than where we were a year ago also, especially with the squad far more familiar with Rodgers as manager and what he’s looking for from our team?
Not surprised Rodgers is looking relaxed regarding the current situation within the club, only shame that the gloom and panic merchants seem to be struggling to follow suit?
And the day I ever look at the scum and feel that sense that our club should be acting in the same manner, would be a very bad day indeed?
We have a fairly strong core group within our overall squad already in place?
Who are far more familiar with there roles within the squad and the expectations from them also, in been able to deliver?
Along with what has been shown in pre season already, with big improvements on show from numerous players, which in turn makes ourselves a stronger all round team?
And this already in place, and stand to become even stronger with the additions, that should be made over the next 5 weeks?
We are nowhere near as bad as a position that too many within our support is trying to paint a picture of imo?
Would say that they would be better off, putting the paint and brushes away, and actually start enjoying what pre season has already shown ourselves so far?
Yet, it will only take the 1 poor result, maybe even tonight, for the voices to become deafening yet again?
Makes me wonder at times, weather they actually hope for that poor result, so there voices can be heard?
Strange behaviour, when the club is in a fairly decent position at present, and stand to become even stronger, over the next few weeks imo?
At the
Moment a punt into our left defense will result in goals we haven’t addressed this and if we have an injury to Kyogo there is no alternative. We might get Idah? But he is still to develop we need a proven alternative up front. Iwould like a defensive midfielder with a bit of presence
