Carl Starfelt speaks on future after Celtic return links

Former Celtic defender Carl Starfelt has spoken out on his Celta Vigo future amid links with a return to Paradise. The central defender departed last summer in a deal worth £5m as he linked with Rafa Benitez but the ex-Liverpool boss has since been replaced by Claudio Giraldez.

Speaking to Fotbollskanalen, Starfelt said that he’s going to keep working hard despite rumours that he’s not in the new manager’s plans next year.

“I was benched for three games near the end of the season. I think I showed in training that I was going to play. I didn’t give up or hang up. Then I got the chance and did well. I don’t give up.”

The 29-year-old was signed from Rubin Kazan in the summer of 2021, before building a brilliant partnership with Cameron Carter-Vickers. The pair were unbeaten together in Scottish football, which speaks to the importance of the Swedish Internationalist.

Starfelt made 87 appearances for Celtic, winning five trophies in two seasons under Ange Postecoglou before opting to move to La Liga. The move hasn’t turned out as the player might’ve hoped and there’s been chatter in the Spanish media that he may return.
