Spent the day in the intense heat of the Côte d’Azur watching Le Tour de France start from the port in the beautiful French city of Nice. Bumped into Matt Corr of this parish too!
The promo vans for Le Tour de France driving around the city had been playing ‘Daddy Cool’ on their loudspeakers all day and of course our improvised version soon became a tribute to our most recent Socceroos star.
The posh French restaurants also improvised, selling ‘pints’ of seize cent soixante-quatre (1664) out of takeaway coffee cups to cycling fans from around the world. Not sure if we were actually getting a pint but in that heat no-one was complaining.

It’s an incredible experience, with huge crowds and a real spectacle, as a city sends the competitors off into the French mountains on the penultimate day of the 2024 tour, which tomorrow finishes for the first time ever in Nice, as Paris prepares for the Olympics.
Pretty special, with that wee touch of our own song for Aaron, Aaron Mooy…what’s not to like?
