The joy of football – Jota on loan would be signing of the summer

Jota on a season-long loan back to Celtic would be signing of the summer, it remains unlikely, but never say never…

Jota has been told he’s surplus to requirements at Al-Ittihad and that has naturally stirred up speculation of a return to Celtic.

Although any deal would have to be a loan one as the Saudi side will want to recoup a big chunk if not all the £25 million they paid for the Portuguese winger last year.

The Saudi side are willing to listen to any proposed loan moves and that has got Celtic supporters talking about a sensational return for the superstar from Portugal.

Just a pipe dream?

But is it a realistic possibility, or just a pipe dream? After all Jota is on a reported £100k plus a week and Celtic would need to cover a huge chunk of that as well as a loan fee.

For me it remains unlikely, but we can only dream. getting a player of Jota’s calibre albeit on a temporary basis would be a massive boost for the club and the supporters.

Maybe Jota has had enough of life in the footballing wilderness

We badly missed his creativity last season, and we haven’t replaced him. To get him back would be absolutely sensational, in fact it would blow any other potential signings out of the water.

Maybe Jota has had enough of life in the footballing wilderness in Saudi Arabia, the weather and the way he’s been regarded at his current club to his last could not be in greater contrast.  Loved and adored to unwanted and ignored. The best thing for Jota to do is to get a compromise agreement reached and take a large sum of money from Al-Ittihad to leave.

The Joy of Football

That is more likely to happen another year down the line so why not re-discover the joy of football playing for Celtic for a season on the same wages he was happy to accept from Celtic before. We can’t offer the mega-bucks from the oil rich state (if only Scotland had oil!) but we can certainly offer Jota THE JOY OF FOOTBALL.

It seems unlikely, but never say never…we are allowed to dream and so too is Jota.
