Celtic have reportedly added Jonny Hayes and Adam Asghar to their youth ranks as Brendan Rodgers looks to continue putting his stamp on the club.
Asghar is set to join as the U18 team Manager with Hayes, who recently retired from playing with Aberdeen, takes over an Assistant Manger role to Stephen McManus in the Celtic B Team.
As reported by Record Sport, Asghar is set to be announced as the new U18s boss with Hayes taking his first step into coaching.
Asghar has had spells with Sunderland and Southampton’s youth teams but is known closer to home, having held a coaching role at Dundee United and youth roles at Motherwell.
Mulgrew misses out
The news means that there is no space for Charlie Mulgrew, who was interviewed for the U18 candidacy. The former Celtic defender is completing his UEFA Pro Licence with the SFA and looks to be keen on entering the coaching side of the game; however, not at Celtic at the moment.
These moves have the hallmark of Brendan Rodgers shaping his football department to embrace his plans for our football club. Rodgers you will recall, coached Hayes as a youngster at Reading and also signed him for Celtic from Aberdeen after the Invincible season on 2016/17.
