Andy Walker shares his thoughts on Brendan’s upcoming Summer transfer window

Former Celtic player, Andy Walker has shared his thoughts on how successful he reckons Celtic’s Summer transfer window will be…

Following another successful season with two trophies added to the collection, Brendan Rodgers will now look to strengthen the Celtic squad in preparation for next season.  Although the Hoops showed they are winners this season, some crucial players are set to leave the squad due to expiring contracts.

Players such as Paulo Bernardo and Adam Idah, who proved to be the winning combination to clutch the Scottish Cup, will be heading back to their respective clubs this summer due to the expiration of their loan deals.

However, they are both reportedly high on the Celtic manager’s’ radar for summer singing. Furthermore, Joe Hart’s retirement has left Brendan needing a worthy replacement in between the sticks as well.

Andy Walkers opinion

Former Celtic forward, Andy Walker believes that Brendan will make a ‘significant’ signing this Summer in an attempt to further strengthen the Celtic squad. Speaking to Go Radio Football Show.

“I do think Celtic will make a significant signing. I’m not sure it’ll be £10 million for a goalkeeper, but I would be very surprised if Celtic (didn’t), after what Brendan Rodgers achieved when he was under a bit of pressure from everyone,” Walker said.

“He’s managed to win the league, he’s won the cup, to have that double and give the Celtic supporters renewed confidence that he is heading in the right direction, and they obviously want some better players there.”

“Going back to what Brendan Rodgers said pretty much halfway through the season before the narrative changed, he wanted a bit of quality, then he was quite happy to work with what he’s got, but I think he’s shown he knows what he’s doing, he’s an elite coach and he knows how to be successful, especially here in Scotland and to win trophies.”

“I’d be really surprised if Celtic didn’t make some sort of signature statement with a big signing, telling Rangers what they’re capable of, flexing that financial muscle that they have, and I’m sure that they’ll get at least three or four names that everybody knows about.”

Although Celtic are in need of a quality goalkeeper following Joe Hart’s exit, Walkers admits that this ‘significant’ singing likely won’t be a goalkeeper.

With that said, there are certainly other positions that could do with strengthening. Due to Adam Idah’s exit, Celtic’s options and depth of strikers appear slightly vulnerable, so a ‘signature’ signing of a forward could be something we have to look forward to, and hopefully it’s the Irish international star himself getting his wish to move back to Celtic on a permanent contract this summer.
