Celtic interested in signing Southampton goalkeeper to replace Joe Hart

Celtic are reportedly keen on signing Alex McCarthy as a replacement for Joe Hart. With Hart set to hang up his gloves at the end of the season, Celtic are on the lookout for a new No.1 and McCarthy is the latest name to be linked.

According to the Daily Mail, Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers rates the Southampton stopper highly given his abilities with the ball at his feet. With Saints pushing for promotion, McCarthy will be focusing on their second leg fixture against West Brom; however, his deal is up at the end of the season.

Rodgers will face competition from the Premier League to sign the player, who has problem himself to be extremely capable in the top flight for the Saints. Liverpool and Newcastle are keen on the player as they look to bolster their goalkeeping options by bringing McCarthy in as a secondary option.

Celtic have been linked with a number of players to fill the void that Hart will inevitably leave. The 75-cap England Internationalist has been incredible both on and off the pitch in embracing Celtic and hopefully he can depart as a winner with the league and Scottish Cup.

Hart’s success at the club will likely act as an incredible job advert to keepers in England who may be considering a move to Glasgow. The club will very likely be competing in the Champions League group stages next season and this will be an attractive prospect to a number of players.
