Celtic considering Belgian Internationalist as club search for new No.1

Celtic are reportedly interested in signing Wolfsburg’s Koen Casteels, who is available as a free agent this summer. The Scottish Champions have the daunting task of having to replace Joe Hart, who will retire from playing at the end of this season.

As reported by The Daily Mail, Casteels is the latest name to be linked with the Celtic Park vacancy as Brendan Rodgers’ side look to prepare for the new season and the UEFA Champions League Group Stages.

Casteels made 274 appearances for the Bundesliga side but confirmed his departure earlier this week, prompting an emotional farewell from Wolfsburg. The news that he will be available this summer has alerted potential suitors – including Anderlecht. The Belgian side want the 6-cap Internationalist to be their new No.1 and hope to seal a deal in the coming weeks.

Celtic are clearly trying to identify and draw up a list of targets ahead of the transfer window opening in order to ease the anxiety of the support about the task of replacing Hart. The 37-year-old has been quality on and off the field for Celtic meaning there is an added significance of finding someone that is able to fill the Hart-shaped hole.

Celtic have been linked with a number of goalkeepers and it is almost certain that the club have been offered a number of players via agents as they look to find a player of the calibre to replace Hart.
