Unique Angle – Sadiku shows Clement how to claw back a four point deficit

It was Grand National Day on Saturday but as far as the SWPL1 was concerned yesterday was the day when the three horse title race lost a contender with current Champions Glasgow City failing to jump the hurdle at Broadwood Stadium in Cumbernauld, going down 4-1 to theRangers Women.

That increases Jo Potter’s side lead over City to seven points and opened up a four points gap on Celtic FC Women ahead of Elena Sadiku’s side tricky away match at Petershill Stadium against Partick Thistle later in the day.

Clawing back a four points deficit is not for everyone, Philippe

Trying to claw back a four points deficit was the story of yesterday as far as the top divisions in both men’s and women’s football were concerned. Earlier in the day Philippe Clement’s side had to strive to achieve just that against Ross County, but the wheels well and truly came off the wagon up in Dingwall with theRangers going down 3-2.

Next to try was Elena Sadiku

Next to try was Elena Sadiku, and the Celtic FC Women manager had her side firing on all cylinders with a devastating first half performance that simply blew the recent Sky Sports Cup finalists away, amid difficult playing conditions.

Two goals from Tash Flint and one each from Caitlin Hayes and Murphy Agnew gave Celtic a 4-0 lead at the interval but it could have been double that score. Second half saw Flint being replaced by Kit Loferski as Sadiku managed her squad with two massive games to come this week.

New mum Lisa Robertson

And the strength of the Celtic bench was there to see as real quality came on to play their part, including new mum Lisa Robertson, who had her first game in a year and was warmly welcomed by players on both sides.

One more goal from Agnew, having her best game yet in a Celtic shirt, finished the scoring to give Celtic a 5-0 victory. Next up is Hibs at Excelsior Stadium in Airdrie on Wednesday night then it’s Hearts at Celtic Park on Sunday where a big Celtic crowd will be there to roar the Ghirls on to the title.
