UEFA squad update could give James Forrest Scotland recall

Scotland will be able to take twenty six players to Euro 2024 this summer. UEFA are said to be about to announce that they will extend the squad sizes for the tournament in Germany.

The news will mean that Celtic skipper Callum McGregor won’t be alone with teammates Greg Taylor and Tony Ralston expected to be included.

One name that has not been suggested as a potential candidate for the Euros is Celtic’s James Forrest. The 32-year-old came off the bench at the weekend and scored in the Semi Final against Aberdeen. The game showcased the attacker’s ability to find the ball in wide areas before working it into a position to get a shot away.

If Forrest can make his impact felt in the last six games of the season, the veteran winger may be a surprise call-up for Clarke.

There are a number of ex-Celts that will almost certainly be in the squad – Ryan Christie, Kieran Tierney, Jack Hendry and likely Stuart Armstrong.

Clarke’s side face Germany, Switzerland and Hungary in the Group Stages and will be eager to make the knockout rounds.
