Calmac must play if he’s deemed fit, and I’ve got a feeling that Brendan has already decided he will…
Callum McGregor was spotted back in training this week as the team prepare for Sunday’s massive game at Ibrox. The Celtic skipper has of course been sidelined since coming off at half time after suffering a knock during the 7-1 win over Dundee back in late February.
A risk worth taking
While there will be concerns over his match fitness if he’s deemed fit enough to start, it’s a risk worth taking.
Callum is a highly influential and talented player, despite the stick he sometimes receives. He’s a leader who makes us stronger in the middle of the park. Reo Hatate and Matt O’Riley may grab the plaudits, but Callum is the one who controls the tempo and makes things happen in the midfield.
His good work often goes unnoticed and under appreciated at times, but Callum is a superb footballer who adds an extra dimension to our midfield. An area of the park that is always vital in a game such as tomorrow’s.
Match fitness won’t be a concern
Sure his match fitness will be a considered a problem. But he’s only missed around five weeks of action, and let’s not forget that he’s played a huge amount of games in the past year, so that certainly won’t be an issue.
Brendan says he will make a decision on whether Callum will start or not on Sunday, but despite hinted to the contrary, I think Brendan is just bluffing. I reckon that Brendan already knows he’s going to start him. Calmac too experienced and talented a player not to use in a fixture such as this. And Brendan Rodgers is well aware of what he will bring to this game.
Clement’s disrespectful remarks
Especially with Phil Clement’s disrespectful remarks yesterday about the Celtic captain. The fact is they have no-one who can live with Callum McGregor in the midfield battle and they all know that.
When the team sheets are announced the first thing they’ll do is check to see if the Celtic captain starts. Their hearts and their hopes will sink if he does.
Just an Ordinary Bhoy
Well we know 4 of the Ibrox team for tomorrow already. We just have to see who the other 11 are now plus their bench.
