Celtic considering two former players for U18s role

Celtic could bring back either Jonny Hayes or Charlie Mulgrew to the club as the U18s coach. The Scottish Champions are considering two players that played prominent roles during the club’s 9IAR success for the prominent academy role.

According to Record Sport Celtic are considering the pair for the role that was vacated by Stuart McLaren earlier this year.

Mulgrew retired last year while Hayes is a coach in the academy at Aberdeen. The Irishman has not yet retired but he is expected to transition into coaching when he decides to hang up his boots.

There have been suggestions that the appointment of either would be a ‘job for the Bhoys’. However, both can speak to progressing through Scottish football and taking different pathways to make it to the Celtic first team. Whilst there are examples like Kieran Tierney and James Forrest, who go straight into the first team, there are also players like Mulgrew who leave, hone their craft and return at a later date.

It will be interesting to see whether there is anything in this story regarding the U18s role.
