Celtic confirm glass bottle thrown at Matt O’Riley at Ibrox

Celtic today condemned another incident at Ibrox after confirming that Matt O’Riley was targeted by a glass bottle after scoring Celtic’s second goal of the game in yesterday’s Glasgow Derby.

Glass bottle thrown at Matt O’Riley

A Celtic Spokesperson told Scottish Sun: “It has been confirmed today that a glass bottle was thrown at Matt at yesterday’s match. The repeated targeting of our players and staff with missiles is quite appalling and completely unacceptable. We have already raised our serious concerns with Rangers and understand that police are investigating the matter.”

Pelted by coins

This incident is the second that Celtic have complained about after yesterday’s game. Celtic Assistant Manager was pelted by coins on the touchline after Adam Idah scored Celtic’s third goal of the game.

Celtic had refused tickets for the away corner at Ibrox this season after SEVEN Celtic supporters were hit by missiles, including Buckfast bottles, thrown from the home support in previous matches at Ibrox.

A member of the Celtic backroom staff was also struck by a glass as he walked up the tunnel at the interval in April 2022 with Celtic ahead in that match.

Joe Hart noticed broken glass

And when Celtic came back out after the break in that match, Joe Hart noticed broken glass that had been thrown onto the pitch during the break.

Ally McCoist was spot on

The latest two incidents bring more shame on the Scottish game and the latest Ibrox club.  It should also be noted that Ally McCoist was spot on last week when he predicted that around 48,000 Rangers supporters would be breaking the new Hate Crime legislation yesterday afternoon.

Anyone listening to the match on the radio or watching on television could not have missed the disgraceful songs of hatred, wallowing in other people’s blood because of their religion.

Police Scotland will be all over this…
