Mark Lawwell has sensationally resigned from his role as Celtic’s Head of Recruitment. The former City Football Group recruitment figure joined Celtic two years ago and the move has not panned out as anyone would have hoped.
Now, Lawwell Jnr has resigned in order to pursue opportunities in football. Lawwell’s No.2 Joe Dudgeon has also submitted his resignation with the pair being placed on gardening leave.
The club should use this as an opportunity to restructure the scouting department at the football club to deliver more first team ready players for Brendan Rodgers.
The club have had to field suggestions of nepotism given that Lawwell and his father are senior figures at the club whilst Gordon Strachan’s sons Gavin Strachan and Craig Strachan are employed by the club. Whilst Gavin is a highly-rated coach, Craig was previously a golf pro and his scouting credentials have been questioned.
