“Mark and Joe worked tirelessly to bring success to Celtic”, Rodgers reacts as Lawwell leaves

Mark Lawwell’s departure as Celtic’s Head of Recruitment was confirmed yesterday with the former City Football Group figure resigning. Joe Dudgeon, Mark Lawwell’s second in command, has also left Celtic with the pair going on gardening leave with immediate effect.

Speaking to the club website, Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers said that both members of the recruitment had worked towards bringing success to Celtic.

“As part of the Club’s recruitment team, Mark and Joe have worked tirelessly to bring success to Celtic, and I would like to wish them both the very best for the future.”

Celtic Chief Executive, Michael Nicholson, added: “Everyone at Celtic thanks Mark and Joe for their contribution and dedication to the club, and we wish them both every success moving forward.”

Lawwell’s patchy record in recruitment terms led to criticism from the supporters and it is interesting to see that the club have said that he was an acquisition by Ange Postecoglou rather than the obvious connection.

Hopefully the club can use this as an opportunity to modernise the recruitment wing of the club.
