Kenny Dalglish arguably the most talented footballer that Britain has ever produced

Kenny Dalglish is arguably the most talented footballer that Britain has ever produced and the most technically gifted player to have played for Celtic, and indeed Liverpool. Kenny scored 167 goals for Celtic in 322 games winning four league titles, four Scottish Cups and one League Cup.

Kenny was included in the Greatest Ever Celtic Team but lost out on the Greatest Ever Celtic Player to Jimmy Johnstone. He did win the Greatest Ever Liverpool player award, all these voted by supporters at each club.

Just last week there was a poll on social media asking for votes between Kenny Dalglish and Henrik Larsson and I must admit that although I’d vote for King Kenny I though the King of Kings would win as the younger supporters would carry the day.

I was surprised that this was not the case and it says a great deal about Dalglish as a Celtic player who last played for the club in 1977 that his star still shines so brightly.

King Kenny Quotes

“It’s alright saying we’ve got £400,000 but where do we find any player like him?” Jock Stein on Dalglish after his transfer to Liverpool  in August 1977.

“Celtic was a marvellous place to be. Everyone was so committed to the success of the club.” Kenny Dalglish.

“My league debut for Celtic was in October 1969 when we played Raith Rovers. Bobby Murdoch was sitting beside me and asked if I was nervous. “ No” I replied. “Well” he said, “ you are putting your boots on the wrong feet”. I looked down and he was right.” Kenny Dalglish. (Celtic won 7-1).

“Jock Stein’s right-hand man, Sean Fallon, was on his way to the coast to take his wife for his wedding anniversary. But he made a detour to our house and left his wife in the car while he came in for a chat. You always dream of playing for the team you support but the most important thing for me was I just wanted to be a professional footballer. Fortunately I fulfilled my dream. When Rangers don’t take you, it’s not the end of the world. It just means that when you later play against them and score, it makes it a wee bit more special.”
Kenny Dalglish (on being rejected by his boyhood club, Rangers).

Kenny Dalglish Photos from Summer 1975

We’ve shown you some of these photos on Celtic Shorts over the last week and this evening we’ve some new Kenny Dalglish photographs to publish which are included here alongside the match-day shots and the training photos from Barrowfield photos.

These photographs were in print or slide format had had been forgotten about up in former Celtic Director Tom Grant’s loft. He found three large bags and gave them all to us to digitalise and then share with the Celtic support. It was no small task with around 800 Celtic forgotten images to have professionally scanned.

The new photos this evening show Kenny doing some publicity shots and later on this evening we’ll have similar shots of most of the Celtic squad at the start of the 1975/76 season.

    1. Translated via Google Translate…The best along with Joe Jordan. I have followed them since 1974 when I was 7 years old from Argentina. I suffered a lot from the 1-3 against Peru in the ’78 World Cup that was played in my country, Argentina.
