Celtic go top after convincing win over St Johnstone

Celtic reclaimed top spot in the Premiership table –  after sweeping St Johnstone aside with a 3-1 scoreline that hugely flatters the visitors.

Celtic celebrated St Patrick’s weekend in their own way, including of course releasing an adidas range of clothing.

St Patrick’s Day celebrations

The Green Brigade opted for colour, song and a history lesson for the stadium to enjoy. There was also a Palestine flag in there too and was that an Israel flag in the away end displayed at the kick-off?

Celtic started slowly but picked up the pace as the first half progressed.  It was 1-0 at the interval with Kyogo heading into the corner from a Kühn cross.

VAR busy

VAR knocked off three Celtic goals for offside and denied Brendan Rodgers’ side a penalty and that is going to be talked about and compared to the decision given against Celtic at Tynecastle.

Three goals did stand from Kyogo Furuhashi, Nicolas Kuhn and James Forrest were enough to wrap up the victory and take the Hoops back to the top of the table, with theRangers playing at lunchtime tomorrow at Dens Park.

Scoreline flatters Saints

Connor Smith scored for the visitors in the closing stages but Craig Levein’s team were well short in all departments today and could easily have been going up the road to Perth on the back of a thrashing.

Nicolas Kuhn Man of the Match

Man of the match was given to Nicolas Kuhn who is now beginning to impress now that he has recovered from his dental issues.

Rodgers very pleased

Afterwards Brendan Rodgers told BBC Scotland:  “Very pleased. Very good performance. Scored three goals, could’ve had more. Overall, really, really pleased. Good penetration.

“Really, really good first goal. Second one, [Kuhn] has to make up a lot of ground after our pressing and great ball by [Kyogo]. Jamesy gets the third one. Really professional job. Hopefully, fingers crossed the players come back after the international break all well.”
